Enrichment
Happy Monkeys Make Us Happy!
Enrichment is an essential component of AGI's comprehensive animal care program and reflects our commitment to promoting both psychological well-being and scientific integrity. We recognize that animals maintained in research settings thrive best when provided with stimulating environments that encourage natural behaviors, reduce stress, and enhance overall welfare, factors that also contribute to the reliability and reproducibility of scientific outcomes.
Our enrichment program incorporates a balanced combination of edible and non-edible strategies. Edible enrichment includes nutritionally appropriate treats, seasonal fruits and vegetables, and foraging-based activities that promote species-specific feeding behaviors. Non-edible enrichment spans an array of options such as puzzle feeders, manipulable objects, perches, swings, climbing structures, and visual or tactile stimuli designed to encourage exploration, activity, and social interaction. By rotating and diversifying these offerings, we maintain novelty and engagement for each animal across its lifecycle.
All enrichment protocols are developed and implemented under the supervision of experienced veterinarians and behavioral specialists, and are reviewed regularly to ensure alignment with AAALAC, USDA, and OLAW standards. This structured, validated approach allows us to provide individualized and group enrichment that reflects both species needs and client program requirements.
